Step into the timeless world of storytelling with this engaging class that explores The Hero’s Journey — a narrative pattern found in myths, legends, and modern tales alike. We'll start with its orgins in the work of Joseph Campbell and then explore the modified version (12 steps) created by Christopher Vogel in his book, "The Writer's Journey."
Through a dynamic video presentation, families will be guided through all 12 stages of the Hero’s Journey — from the Ordinary World to the Return with the Elixir. We’ll look at each step’s purpose, the challenges and transformations it brings, and examples you’ll recognize from the film, "Finding Nemo."

Hi, my name is Mary and I love all things books and book clubs. I have been organizing and leading book clubs in the homeschool community for 6 years and I can't wait to discuss books with you. My book clubs are designed to encourage and inspire students to think more deeply about what they read, to form and defend their opinions, and to engage others in conversations about books.
I believe that book clubs are a brilliant way to lay the foundation for literary analysis. Well-crafted discussions help us explore various literary and plot elements, the author's style, and book themes in a fun and relaxed environment. I know everyone is capable of sharing great insights and the questions in our book club will be designed to draw those insights out.
I am a graduate of Towson University with a BS in Elementary Education. I taught in the public school system (elementary and then middle school) for five years before staying home with my kids. We began homeschooling over 12 years ago and in that time, my own love of children's books and young adult literature was reignited. I spent two years as an employee at Brave Writer where I facilitated online book clubs and now I share my love of books online on my own website at Celebrate a Book.
I live in North Carolina with my husband, four kids, and our dog, Lafayette. Yes, the dog represents our family's absolute love for Hamilton: The Musical.

Fantastic resource
The Hero’s Journey course is a great resource for not only my kids, but for me as well. The course has really helped me solidify my own knowledge of the hero’s journey. One of my favorite things about being a homeschool parent is learning right alongside my kids. If I was ever taught about the hero’s journey during my own education, which includes minoring in English in college, I don’t remember a lick about it. This course has allowed me to learn about it more in depth, so I can not only teach my kids, but also a handful of students in a literature co-op we are apart of. I really enjoyed the inclusion of the worksheets, outside videos and book list. Hands down this is a resource every family who loves good books should have in their resource library. The hero’s journey is found all around us. It’s been so much fun to identify it in so many books and movies we love.
